We have to admit, it’s nice when all the dedication, commitment, massive investment and hard work gets recognised. So we’ve been very happy with the accolades and awards that have come our way over the past several years. From our design to our engineering, from vehicle efficiency to consumer satisfaction, what we have been doing has struck a chord with the judges and delighted our customers.
In one of the industry’s most demanding vehicle tests, Hyundai Motor’s Sonata earned the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety’s highest accolade for safety, receiving a 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award. The IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award helps consumers select vehicles that offer the highest level of crash protection.
“Occupant safety, above all other things, is the single most important factor when designing and engineering Hyundai Motor’s vehicles,” said Mike O’Brien, Vice President of Product and Corporate Planning at Hyundai Motor America. “Given the increasing demands of the test, receiving this award is a testament to our emphasis on safety at every price point, and is a point of pride for every Hyundai Motor’s associate.”
The requirements for TOP SAFETY PICK+ were tightened for 2016. To qualify, winners must earn good ratings in each of the Institute’s five crashworthiness tests – small overlap crash test, moderate overlap crash test, side and roof strength, and head restraint tests – and have an available front crash prevention system earning an advanced or superior rating.
The new Hyundai Tucson has been named the Company Vehicle Medium SUV of the Year 2015, beating nine other vehicles to the top automotive business award.
The Company Vehicle magazine Business Cars of the Year featured no fewer than 10 categories, and awards are made by the magazine’s professional motoring journalists after they have driven and evaluated the vehicles.

The new Hyundai Elantra, released in New Zealand in June 2011, has taken top honours in the most exclusive award in North America, being named the 2012 North American Car of the Year.
A jury of 50 independent North American automotive journalists evaluated every car on the market, choosing the 2012 Hyundai Elantra as the winner. The award was announced at a news conference at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It marks Hyundai's second win, with the Hyundai Genesis being named North American Car of the Year in 2009.
Recently launched in New Zealand, the Hyundai Elantra has already won the AutoPacific compact car Ideal Vehicle Award, as well as the Vehicle Satisfaction Award.
The Ideal Vehicle Award was based on results from 72,000 surveys completed by owners of new cars and light trucks in the United States. It measures the expectations of owners and asks them to rate their vehicle across 15 different categories, ranging from power and acceleration to safety features and storage.
As well as picking up the AutoPacific Awards, the Elantra was also ranked number one out of eight models in the compact sedan category by US magazine Motor Trend.
